Getting to know - Mitch Russell

 

The Cut prides itself on offering a welcoming and friendly environment for all members.

This is where Mitch Russell enters the picture.

For those of you who don’t know him, Mitch is the Manager of The Cut Health Club. Mitch possesses a passionate and approachable temperament, and his presence at The Cut is why so many people enjoy working out in our facilities.

We sat down with Mitch during the week to learn more about the Health Club and discover what motivates him to do what he does.

 

The Cut Health Club (TCHC): Tell us a bit about your career background and how you got to where you are now.

Mitch Russell (MR): I spent a large part of my working life as a Real Estate agent.

However, I’ve always had a passion for helping people, leadership and coaching.

So much so, when I was 15-years old, I was appointed the coach of an Under 12’s Southern District football team (now Peel Thunder) that played at halftime of an Eagles vs Brisbane match at the WACA. 

In 2017 I decided to follow my passion further and become a manager of a gym franchise, as well as a Personal Trainer.

I really like to help people and by doing that I get a lot of personal satisfaction. When I saw an opportunity to work at the Cut arise and build a gym from the bottom, I couldn’t resist.

 

TCHC: How long have you been working at The Cut for?

MR: I started at The Cut in late June 2021

 

TCHC: What does an average week look like for you?

MR: A typical week for me will involve running a lot of the classes. Quite often I will participate in them too! To me, being able to put in the work that I ask of others is important. 

Also, throughout the week I will be welcoming new members into the Health Club by showing them around and making sure they know how to use the equipment. 

My aim is to make people feel comfortable so they can get on with reaching their goals.

 

TCHC: What do you like about The Cut that separates it from other establishments?

MR: I believe our health club is non intimidating. It’s relaxed and friendly, and we endeavor to make time for people if they ask for help; which you don’t always get at other gyms. 

We also have great views of the golf course and the gym is bright and inviting which makes for some great workouts!

 

 

TCHC: What do you like most about your role at The Cut? 

MR: I would say I like progress the most. I like seeing things working and improving over time. Whether that’s members reaching their health goals, seeing people enjoying classes, or new systems being implemented.

I also love seeing people hanging out after their workout together at our café. Building a community is a great feeling and it gets me pumped to see it each day. 

 

TCHC: How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance?

MR: When I’m not participating in classes, I like to do weight training about three times a week. I also have a new passion for Golf. 

The game is quite testing and difficult and I enjoy challenging myself. My son and I play a lot, we love it! 

I also spend a lot of time with my wife and I coach my youngest son’s football team.

 

TCHC: What motivates you the most about helping people achieve their goals?

MR: To be 100% truthful, when someone reaches a goal or feels they have turned their life around and they thank me, I feel really proud that I have played a very small part in making it happen, and for me, that’s all I need.
